Frequently asked questions about Chinese medicine

What is traditional Chinese medicine and how does it differ from Western medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a deeply rooted system of health care that has been developed over millennia. Unlike Western medicine, which focuses primarily on treating symptoms and uses drugs and surgery, TCM looks for the causes of health problems in imbalances in the body's, emotional, and energy systems. TCM uses a wide range of methods, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, tuina massage, qigong, and dietetics, to support the body in self-healing and restoring balance.

One of the key concepts of TCM is the harmony between two opposing and complementary forces known as yin and yang. According to TCM, health is considered a state of balance between these forces. Another important principle is the flow of life energy, known as qi, through the body along pathways called meridians. Imbalances or blockages in the flow of qi can lead to disease.

Unlike Western medicine, which often approaches patients in a standardized manner, TCM recognizes the uniqueness of each individual, with diagnosis and treatment tailored to personal needs. This holistic approach not only targets symptoms, but also seeks to improve overall quality of life by promoting emotional, mental, and physical well-being.

In my practice, I strive to give each patient my full attention to understand their unique condition and design a treatment plan that will best support their journey to healing and sustainable health.

What methods and treatment techniques do I use in the practice of traditional Chinese medicine?

In my practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I utilize a wide range of methods and techniques that are tailored to each client's individual needs and health challenges. These methods include:

  1. Herbal Medicine: The use of diverse herbal formulas tailored to the individual needs of the client to promote health and treat disease.
  2. Tuina massage: A therapeutic form of massage focusing on acupuncture points and meridians to rebalance the body's energy.
  3. TCM Dietetics: Diet and nutrition counseling based on TCM principles that shows clients how to support their health through diet.
  4. Qigong: A set of exercises combining movement, breathing, and meditation to improve physical and emotional well-being and energy balance.
  5. Moxibustion: This method uses the burning of dried mugwort near the skin or over acupuncture points. The goal of moxibustion is to warm these areas and promote the smooth flow of qi and blood throughout the body. Moxibustion is particularly effective for treating chronic pain, digestive problems, and as a complementary therapy to strengthen the body's resistance.

Each of these methods has specific benefits and can be used alone or in combination for optimal results. During your first meeting, we will explore your needs and goals so that I can design the most appropriate treatment plan. My goal is not only to address your current health concerns, but also to support your overall well-being and health on your path to a harmonious life.

How does the first consultation work and what can I expect from it?

During your initial Traditional Chinese Medicine consultation, I will take the time to understand your health, lifestyle, and specific needs. This approach allows me to create a treatment plan that is tailored specifically to you. What can you expect from your first appointment?

  1. A thorough medical history: I will ask you a series of questions about your health, medical history, eating habits, emotional well-being, and lifestyle. This information will help me better understand your needs.
  2. Examination: I can perform several traditional diagnostic methods, such as assessing your tongue and pulse, which give me further insight into your health status and help identify imbalances in the body.
  3. Treatment Plan Discussion: Based on the information gathered, I will design a treatment plan that may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, tuina massage, dietary recommendations based on TCM principles, and other appropriate therapies.
  4. Expectations and Goals: We will discuss what results you can expect from treatment and how long it might take before you see improvement. I will also provide you with information on how you can support your healing process at home.
  5. Answers to your questions: It is important to me that you feel informed and comfortable, so I will take the time to answer any questions you may have about TCM or your specific treatment plan.

The first consultation is a key step towards your recovery and overall improvement in your quality of life. My effort is to provide you with an environment where you feel heard, understood and where together we can find a path to your better health and well-being.

How can I find out if traditional Chinese medicine is right for me?

Whether TCM is right for you depends on many factors, including your specific health condition, personal preferences, and expectations for treatment. TCM offers a holistic approach to health that focuses on restoring balance and harmony within the body, and is therefore suitable for a wide range of health issues. Here are some key aspects to help you determine if TCM is right for you:

  1. Variety of diseases and conditions: TCM has proven results in treating and alleviating symptoms of many diseases, including, but not limited to, chronic pain, digestive problems, stress and anxiety, allergies, insomnia, and fertility problems.
  2. You prefer natural approaches to treatment: If you are interested in alternatives to conventional medicine or are looking for complementary treatment methods that are less invasive and based on natural remedies, TCM may be an ideal choice for you.
  3. Holistic approach: TCM provides a unique perspective on health and illness, focusing not only on treating symptoms but also on finding and addressing the underlying causes of imbalances. If you are looking for treatment that encompasses your physical, emotional and spiritual aspects, TCM may be right for you.
  4. Prevention and health maintenance: TCM places great emphasis on prevention and on promoting health and vitality. If you are interested in maintaining good health, improving your quality of life, and preventing disease, TCM can offer you valuable tools and knowledge.
  5. Openness and willingness: The success of TCM treatment also depends on your openness and willingness to engage in the treatment process, which may include changes in diet, lifestyle, and regular therapeutic procedures.

If you are unsure whether TCM is right for you, I recommend scheduling a consultation. This will allow us to discuss your health concerns, goals, and expectations, and I can assess how TCM can best support your health and well-being.

How long does it take before I see results from traditional Chinese medicine treatment?

The time it takes to see results from traditional Chinese medicine treatment can vary greatly depending on individual factors such as the type and severity of your condition, your overall health, your lifestyle, and how closely you follow the recommended treatment plan. Here are some key points to understanding the healing process in TCM:

  1. Individualized approach: TCM considers each client as unique, with their own specific needs and responses to treatment. Some clients may experience relief or improvement very soon after starting treatment, while for others it may take a longer time.
  2. Gradual Treatment: TCM treatment is often a gradual process that focuses on restoring and maintaining the body’s balance over the long term. While some symptoms may be relieved quickly, deeper imbalances and underlying causes of your illness may require a longer period of time to heal.
  3. Combination therapies: Results can also be accelerated or enhanced by combining various TCM methods, such as moxibustion, herbal medicine, and dietary and lifestyle changes. Openness and willingness to adapt to these changes are important.
  4. Collaboration and Communication: Effective treatment requires active participation and collaboration between the client and the therapist. Regular communication about how you are feeling during treatment allows you to adjust the treatment plan to your current needs.
  5. Prevention and Long-Term Care: Many clients continue certain aspects of TCM even after their condition has improved significantly to support their health and prevent future problems.

Depending on your situation and goals, you may see results after just a few sessions, but it may take weeks to months of treatment to achieve lasting changes. Patience and trust in the healing process are the keys to success.

If you have specific concerns about how quickly you might expect improvement, I would be happy to discuss this with you in more detail during our meeting.

What are the prices of individual consultations?

Consultations are focused on diagnosing individual tendencies to disrupt the balance of the organism on the physical, energetic, emotional and mental levels, which are based on the constitutional characteristics of each individual.

During a personal meeting, I use all the techniques of Chinese medicine and together we plan a procedure to restore the disturbed balance of the organism.

To further support the harmonization of the organism, I use individual, tailor-made tea blends or selected dietary supplements according to the current condition.

Herbs for herbal mixtures are checked in laboratories and certificates are available on the supplier's website.

For an initial consultation, it is necessary to fill out a questionnaire on the computer,
